Assuming the calculations are correct, in 2013 San Diego will become the first area in the United States where solar power is cheaper than buying electricity from the grid. I find this fascinating. As noted:
[Solar grid parity is] a tipping point, when democratization of the electricity system not only makes political and economic sense, but becomes more competitive than using utility-delivered electricity.
New York City will follow in 2015 and Los Angeles, Riverside, San Jose and San Francisco in 2017.
